MSTAR

MStar Semiconductor is a technology company founded by MStar Software R&D (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. The company was established in May 2002 in Taiwan’s Hsinchu Science Park, where its headquarters are also located. Its core engineering team originated from Texas Instruments in the United States, and the company operates branches across 17 countries and regions worldwide. MStar specializes in the design of consumer electronics and image-processing chips, with a product portfolio that includes LCD controller ICs, digital TV chips, and related solutions.

MStar achieved a leading position in the global market, holding over 60% share in LCD control ICs for five consecutive years and about 50% of the global TV chip market, reaching 75% in mainland China. MStar Software R&D (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. operates as a wholly owned subsidiary. In 2006, the company expanded into mobile phone chips by acquiring the French VTMS team. Through aggressive management strategies, MStar surpassed MediaTek to become the world’s top TV chip supplier. MediaTek initiated an acquisition in 2012, and after full integration in 2018, MStar’s TV chip business was absorbed into MediaTek, while the remaining operations were spun off.
