Balun

A balun, short for "balanced to unbalanced," is an electronic component used primarily in RF (Radio Frequency), IF (Intermediate Frequency), and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) systems to convert between balanced signals, which have two conductors carrying equal and opposite signals, and unbalanced signals, which consist of a single conductor and a ground. This conversion is crucial for applications like antenna connections, where it ensures minimal signal loss and reduced interference. Baluns are designed to accommodate specific frequencies and impedances, making them essential for optimizing the performance of broadcast and reception systems in telecommunications, television broadcasting, and radio astronomy. Common manufacturers of balun components include Mini-Circuits, Johanson Technology, and Murata, among others.
